McNeil Center for Early American Studies 2005 Set on a prominent gateway site to Penn’s campus, the McNeil Center balances historical resonance with contemporary design. Its Flemish-bond brick facade and portico draw from the Federal-era architecture central to the Center’s research focus, while subtle modernist detailing nods to Louis Kahn. Inside, the building houses offices, a library overlooking Hill Field, and flexible spaces for lectures and seminars, fostering scholarship and informal exchange in an intimate, light-filled setting. Povero led the design team responsible for this project while a lead designer with RAMSA. Photography by Esto |
