Harlem Townhouse
2014

Povero&Company was tasked to transform a former bed-and-breakfast into a modern live/work space for a young family relocating from Los Angeles. The programmatic needs range from a communal space - for entertainment industry events - and a screening room, to a private study accessed through a wall-hung painting on concealed hinges. A veritable “cabinet of curiosities” filled with art, salvaged furniture and taxidermy, the detailing encouraged investigations into the design of late-19th century row housing and myriad material installations - traditional rift-sawn oak chair rail, cold-rolled steel with infilled glass, lacquered millwork, and a hammered-tin ceiling, among others.
